Preliminary Task Evaluation

Our short film showed examples of continuity editing throughout. There was a clear sense of beginning middle and end overall and in each scene. We used techniques such as the 180 degree rule throughout to increase the continuity of the film, we thought this would be quite an easy obvious thing to do but when we changed location or started a new scene we found out that we had accidently filmed it the wrong way round and by looking at this realised the importance of the technique because when we looked at it, it was confusing even for us so we had to refilm those shots.

I think we used shot reverse shot well, we had the shot with an over the shoulder shot and then used a close up for the reverse to show the emotions as this is the shot out of the three that would get the most reaction, then we went back to over the shoulder for the final shot. we used this sequence of camera angles for our shot reverse shots because it helped set the scene and location, and by going back to the over the shoulder shot it helped maintain the continuity.

Our match on action worked well because it was very continuous the the quick transition from both cameras made the movement look very continuous. We showed match on action twice, both were whn someone was walking through a door. By using this we used more continuity editing meaning the two shots linked together almost seamlessly and go almost unnoticed by the audience. If we didn't use this the scne would look a bit empty and it could cause confusion as the audience wouldn't know where the scene was taking place.

I think our group worked well together. In the planning stage we split into two groups of two. One group worked on the script and thought about the overall story line and camera angles we would use. The other group created the story board and also looked at what props and equipment we would need so we could have them before we started filming. we then came together and made any changes we thought needed to be made as a group. I think we could have improved by managing our time better. We left it quite late to get our actors and ended up having to use two members of our group meaning they couldn't be too involved in the filming side of it so when we next do filming I'll make sure we definitely have our actors ready so everyone had a fair chance at filming, directing and editing.
